– 2019 Kennedy Licata

TNRHA is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2019 Terry Howell Memorial Youth Scholarship is Kennedy Licata.

Kennedy has had a passion for horses since she was little and was lucky enough to have been taught everything she knows about horses by her Aunt Lori. At the age of 16, Kennedy moved to Clinton, Tennessee and this is where she started in reining and found the TNRHA organization. The 2018 show season was her first year involved with TNRHA. Kennedy says that being a part of TNRHA has helped show her a new perspective on being involved in many new activities and meeting new people. Her letters of recommendation all mentioned her outgoing personality, outstanding work ethic and love of ranch life.

Kennedy will be attending Roane State Community College in the fall.

Congratulations, Kennedy!

– 2018 Connor Hobby –

Connor Hobby was raised at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Maryville Tennessee.  He is the only horse enthusiast in his family and through his hard work, dedication and perseverance has become one of the top Youth Riders in the United States. He got his start riding in IEA competitions and quickly realized his addiction to the sport of Reining. His first Reining horse show was the Spring show in Harriman, TN when he was only 12.  Since then, Connor has traveled throughout the North, South and Eastern affiliates to shows, often driving himself or traveling with his surrogate family so he could compete and ride with his new-found friends and fellow competitors.  As his senior year of high school approached so did the possibility of a “Title Run” in the NRHA.  Attending horse shows and managing his school work were tough, but Connor excelled both in and out of the arena.  Connor has been active in his home affiliate and held the position of Vice President, clinching a world title and maintaining an impressive GPA in AP classes.

He claims TNRHA is where he learned life lessons and leadership skills that will enrich his life through college at the University of Tennessee.  Connor states the genuine support and encouragement from TNRHA members helped him through slumps in his reining career and he will continue to reflect on these experiences for the rest of his life.
